University of Tokyo Scholarships

The University of Tokyo offers the following opportunities:

  • The University of Tokyo Research Internship Program (UTRIP)
  • The Global Science Course
  • The Global Science Graduate Course

The University of Tokyo Research Internship Program (UTRIP)

UTRIP is a 6-week summer internship program for students majoring in natural science and other relevant fields. It provides students with an opportunity to gain the experience of "real graduate-school life" or "research-centered life." UTRIP is a gateway to pursuing an advanced degree and experiencing academic life at their university. Participants on UTRIP will also be granted financial support to cover their costs and expenses. They will also get the opportunity to take part in cultural activities and excursions to learn more about Japan.

More information about UTRIP can be found here: http://www.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/en/utrip/

This program was launched by the Graduate School of Science (GSS) of the University of Tokyo.

According to the eligibility of this program, the program requires the students must have studied Natural Science or related fields. The UTRIP program gives students experience in one of their five departments in the Graduate School of Science. These are physics, astronomy, chemistry, earth & planetary science, and biological sciences. These topics are broad in scope, so related fields might include certain sub-fields of Engineering, for example, or Agricultural or Pharmaceutical Sciences, again depending on the sub-fields.

The Global Science Course (GSC)

GSC is an undergraduate transfer program that was designed to enhance cross-cultural interactions among young minds and foster the next generation of leaders in science. Students study alongside current UTokyo students in an all-English and research-focused academic environment, which includes rotations in world-renowned laboratories. Successful applicants to this program are also provided a monthly scholarship alongside fully supported accommodation. This is an invaluable opportunity for those looking to expand their worldviews and experience something unique during their time as an undergraduate student specializing in the sciences.

More information about the Global Science Course can be found here: http://www.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/GSC/

The Global Science Course (GSC) is established to foster future leaders in an international environment. It is also our aim to create an all-English learning hub in.

According to the HP, GSC supports all transferred students can receive 150,00yen per a month and full housing support. However, the students must cover the cost of tuition and admission themselves. However, tuition exemption may be granted to a limited number of students with high academic qualifications who have difficulties in paying their tuition fees due to financial problems or other unavoidable circumstances.

The Global Science Graduate Course (GSGC)

GSGC is an international graduate program that was recently launched by the Graduate School of Science at the University of Tokyo and allows students to obtain their degrees in English. This program welcomes excellent graduates from universities all over the world, fostering world-class science professionals, and standardizes a five-year integrated education scheme in which students attend both the Master’s program and the Doctoral program in sequence. Students on GSGC are also provided with a monthly scholarship during their time on the program and support in finding employment following graduation. This program does not have any age limitation when applying for GSGC.

More information about the Global Science Graduate Course can be found here: http://www.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/GSGC/
