Current Students

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Lethbridge offers a number of highly diverse and exciting programs, each of them carrying their own unique characteristics.

Computer Science students learn to tackle difficult problems using a variety of hardware, software, and programming languages; you will also learn to communicate your expertise to others.

Mathematics students have the opportunity to study both pure mathematics and applied mathematics; you are given the opportunity to see the real-world application of your textual studies.

Statistics is the study of the collection, organization, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data. Application of statistical techniques is an essential part of decision making and study in a wide range of disciplines such as astronomy, biology, education, economics, geography, engineering, genetics, marketing, medicine, psychology, public health, and sports.

Students in all programs have access to state-of-the-art technology which is updated regularly as well as access to both disciplines in the department.

Students in the Faculty of Arts and Science have a number of special opportunities available including:

  • Participation in Conferences
  • Co-authorship of papers/publications

Opportunities related to your degree program in Mathematics and Computer Science include:

  • Co-operative Education
  • Applied Studies
  • Independent Studies
  • Undergraduate (Honours) thesis (See Academic Calendar for details)

Math & Computer Science students compete annually in the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest. Department contact: Howard Cheng (howard.cheng@uleth.ca)

Mathematics students also take part in the annual Putnam competitions. Department contact: Sean Legge (sean.legge@uleth.ca)

Graduates from these disciplines have gone on to work in such positions as: software developer, teacher, computer graphics technician, curriculum developer, statistician, computer engineer, telecommunications manager, and researcher.
