Open Studies Courses
Explore courses for professional development, to boost your GPA or for interest's sake! With Open Studies, you can take courses without enrolling in a formal University program. The on-campus (in-person) dates for Open Studies Courses in the Summer 2025 term are July 2-July 18.
Individuals must possess a valid permanent Alberta Teaching Certificate and have been teaching for two years to be eligible to complete the courses. Candidates must also have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the terms containing the last 20 university-graded courses. Undergraduate transcripts will be required as part of the registration process. EDUC 5630 A: Educational Leadership and the Change Process (CRN: 20294)
An interpretation of the change process, leadership models, administration theory and the role of vision in leadership.
Sessions will run Monday-Friday 9:00-11:45 a.m.
EDUC 5631 A: School Culture and the Instructional Program (CRN: 20295)
An examination of the leader's role in facilitating a positive school culture and in positioning teaching and learning as the focal point of schools.
Sessions will run Monday-Friday 1:00-3:45 p.m.
EDUC 5850 C: Teachers and Teaching in Complex Spaces (CRN: 20300)
This course is focused on unpacking, addressing, and critically analyzing contemporary and relevant issues impacting teachers and teaching in current complex spaces. A foundational framework, related to teachers’ work and the teaching profession will be established to aid in applying a critical and grounded understanding of key issues. We will focus on a sampling of the most current and pressing issues facing teachers and teaching today though collaborative experiences and individual inquiry.

EDUC 5850 D: Enacting Ethics of Care within Contemporary Classrooms (CRN: 20301)
Through the lens of Nodding’s Ethics of Care, we will explore how we as teachers can enact Ethics of Care to support students from Protected Grounds of Discrimination (PGD) populations.
Sessions will run Monday-Friday 1:00-3:45 p.m.
Process:
Step One: Fill out Open Studies Form
Step Two: Email form with unofficial transcripts to edu.masters@uleth.ca (not the regoffice@uleth.ca noted on the form). Submit forms no later than Monday, June 9, 2025.
Your Open Studies form and transcripts will be evaluated. Students should meet the minimum requirements for admission to the Master of Education program including a B.Ed. and a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Step Three: Check your email and follow instructions for your Bridge account setup.
Step Four: Register for your course in the Bridge and pay your fees.
Admission to Graduate Program: Registration in any of these courses does not guarantee admission into M.Ed. program at a later date.
Credit for Previous Work
A maximum of two term courses (equivalent 6.0 credit hours) beyond those required for admission, which have not already been credited toward a completed University credential, may be accepted for credit in the M.Ed. program to the extent that they contribute to courses required for program focus. All courses considered for transfer credit must carry a grade of ‘B-’ or higher, and must have been completed no longer than five years prior to the student’s admission or readmission to the program.
