Leadership Quality Standard Courses

The University of Lethbridge has been approved by Alberta Education to deliver a two-course package which meets the Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) certification requirement. Each course is 3.0 Credit Hours. Courses are offered sequentially, and are intended to be taken as a package. Students will register in both the Summer and Fall offering (upon approval for registration).

NOTE: Individuals must hold an Alberta permanent teaching certificate. Courses must be taken in order.

EDUC 5855 Exploring the Leadership Quality Standard (SUMMER 2021)

An exploration of Alberta Education's Leadership Quality Standard and implications for the practice of educational leadership in Alberta. 

Schedule & delivery method: This course is scheduled in Summer Session II, which runs from July 5 to July 23, 2021. The delivery will be online, however synchronous meeting times will be required. Specific details for meeting times will be provided by the instructor, but it is expected to require synchronous participation on July 5-8 and 12-14.

Cost for this course is approximately $800, which includes the graduate course tuition fee and required miscellaneous fees. Refer to the Fee Schedule for details.


EDUC 5856 Implementing the Leadership Quality Standard (FALL 2021)

This course introduces a broad variety of methods in which knowledge and understanding of Alberta Education's Leadership Quality Standard can be enhanced and applied through field studies for professionals in education and education-related contexts in community settings. 

Schedule & delivery method:  This course is scheduled during the fall term, which runs from September 8 to December 18, 2021. The delivery will be online, however synchronous meeting times will be required. Specific details for meeting times will be provided by the instructor, but it is expected to be:

  • Section A: Sept. 10-11, Oct. 8-9, Nov. 5-6, Dec. 3-4 (FULL)
  • Section B: Sept. 10, 18, Oct. 15-16, Nov. 12-13, Dec. 3-4
  • Friday sessions run 5-8pm; Saturday sessions run 10am-4pm
