Outcomes

The outcomes listed here have been correlated with the KSAs. The KSAs are the Knowledge, Skills and Attributes for beginning teachers, excerpted from the Quality Teaching Policy Document by Alberta Education.

The Intern Teacher will:

  • plan, develop and deliver an assigned collection of courses representing 50% of the teacher mentor’s teaching load.
    • KSA: demonstrates understanding of the purposes of the Guide to Education and programs of study germane to the specialization or subject disciplines they are prepared to teach. KSA: demonstrates understanding of the purposes of short, medium and long range planning. KSA: demonstrates understanding of the purposes of student assessment.
  • develop a set of professional growth plans and goals.
    • KSA: make reasoned decisions about teaching and learning based on their ongoing analysis of contextual variables. KSA: use the programs of study to inform and direct planning instruction and assessment. KSA: plan for instruction, translating curriculum and outcomes into meaningful learning activities. KSA: use a broad range of instructional strategies. KSA: identify and use relevant learning resources.
  • create and present a professional teaching portfolio.
    • KSA: demonstrates understanding of the importance of career-long learning. KSA: demonstrates understanding of the importance of guiding their actions with a personal, overall vision of the purpose of teaching. KSA: demonstrates understanding that contextual variables affect teaching and learning.
  • engage a professional development study designed to enhance teaching interests, skills, and/or knowledge.
    • KSA: demonstrates understanding of the importance of career-long learning.
  • to work collaboratively with the administrators, mentors, staff and students associated with their internship placement.
    • KSA: demonstrates understanding of the importance of contributing, independently and collegially, to the quality of their school.
