Welcome to Your New Journey!

Embarking on a new role as an educator can be both exciting and challenging. To help you settle in and thrive at the University of Lethbridge, we host a comprehensive New Educator Orientation. This event is designed specifically for new faculty, instructors, and sessional instructors, providing vital information and resources to support their teaching journey.

What to expect:

Engaging Networking Opportunities

Meet and connect with your Teaching Centre, fellow new hires, faculty, and staff in a welcoming environment. This is a fantastic chance to build relationships and establish a network of colleagues who will support you throughout your tenure at the university.

Invaluable Support and Resources

During the orientation, you will learn about the variety of support groups and resources available for both you and your students. Understanding these resources early on can significantly enhance your teaching experience and student engagement. Participants will receive a digital brochure that includes resources and information offered at the Orientation.

Understanding University Policies

Gain insights into important teaching policies and procedures at the University of Lethbridge. This session is crucial for ensuring you are well-informed about the academic environment and the expectations that come with your new position.

Informal Networking Opportunity

After the morning session, participants have the opportunity to gather on campus. This informal setting provides an excellent opportunity to connect further with other new educators to share experiences and insights during the break.

Afternoon Workshop - Moodle Basics & other Teaching Tools

Recognizing the importance of technology in education, we are also offering an optional hands-on session in the afternoon. This session will focus on essential tools such as Moodle, Zoom, YuJa, and ePoll, equipping you with  information regarding teaching tools available, needed to navigate the university's Learning Management System and other teaching software. Participants bring their own laptops for a more engaging experience.

Have questions? Join our interactive workshop session to seek answers and clarification about various teaching tools available, the university community or academic culture.

The University is located on traditional Blackfoot Confederacy territory. We honour the Blackfoot people and their traditional ways of knowing in caring for this land, as well as all Aboriginal peoples who have helped shape and continue to strengthen our University community.
