Spotlight on Academic Staff and Faculty Using AI in Their Teaching
Featured Academic Staff & Faculty
Dr. Sidney Shapiro - Dhillon School of Business
Sidney teaches business analytics at the Dhillon School of Business. The recent rise of generative AI and tools like ChatGPT has changed how students learn today. Because of this, Sidney has also changed how he teaches, incorporating opportunities for students to use AI. Still, this opportunity also requires students to think critically as they evaluate the content generated.
'While AI offers powerful resources that can enhance the educational experience, it's crucial that students develop a strong understanding of the material and not rely on technology as a crutch.'

Dr. Josephine Mills - Faculty of Fine Arts
Josephine had to develop new plans this past semester to engage her students. Not overly comfortable with technology, Josie was apprehensive about using forums with groups within Moodle. However, with some guidance, these forums were set up and engaged as she wanted.
When it came down to an assessment that Josie was developing, she took this as an opportunity to incorporate AI into one of her assignments. This very much left her comfort zone behind. Despite the apprehension, the discussion results around these assignments were terrific. Students had to engage and critique the AI content critically before incoporating it into their own answer. They soon had new perspectives about using AI for their assignments and how it was easy to be misled by AI content.
