Dual Admission

Dual Admission is a specific transfer admission route available for some degree programs and is open to students enrolled in a Dual Admission Partner Institution.

Students enrolled in a Partner Institution may be eligible to participate in Dual Admission. Students who meet Partner Institution and University of Lethbridge admission requirements and are enrolled in the Partner Institution may apply for general admission at the University of Lethbridge. Students who do not meet University of Lethbridge admission requirements may take courses at the Partner Institution to prepare for eligibility.

Students begin the application process at the Partner Institution. It is highly advised students seeking Dual Admission meet with an academic advisor from the Partner Institution.

Students enrolled in a Partner Institution who do not meet Dual Admission criteria or timelines are still invited to apply to the University of Lethbridge through the Transfer Admission Route.

Eligibility for admission to the University of Lethbridge may be met through high school courses, courses taken at the Partner Institution, or courses completed at another institution.

General Admission to the University of Lethbridge
All direct-from-high school students (or those individuals who are eligible to use the High School Admissions route) who meet the Dual Admission Partner Institution / University of Lethbridge admission requirements and are enrolled in the Partner Institution can apply for University of Lethbridge general admission.

Individuals who have not met the University of Lethbridge general admission requirements may take courses at the Partner Institution prior to applying to the University of Lethbridge to prepare for admission eligibility. Students must contact an academic advisor at the Partner Institution regarding taking courses outside of the Partner Institution or the University of Lethbridge while dually enrolled and may be referred to a University of Lethbridge academic advising office.

Students who have transferred to the Partner Institution may also qualify for the Dual Admission opportunity and should meet with an academic advisor.

Program Admission Requirements
Students will be required to meet any additional University of Lethbridge program admission requirements for their specific program and major when they “activate” their enrolment at the University of Lethbridge, including competitive program admission policies and procedures.

Forms
  • College of the Rockies: Application for Dual Admission | Dual Admission Guide
  • Medicine Hat College: Application for Dual Admission

Partner Institution students who have, or will be completing, a minimum of 15.0 credits with a GPA of 2.00 on the University of Lethbridge's 4.00 scale (or higher GPA if required by a specific program) are eligible to activate their University of Lethbridge enrolment by the appropriate deadlines.

Applicants must transition to the University of Lethbridge within three years of being dually admitted, with no break in study.

Activation is initiated by the applicant through the completion of an Application to the University of Lethbridge through ApplyAlberta (the standard application fee will apply) and submitting updated transcripts for high school, the Partner Institution and all other post-secondary institutions.

As per Admission processes, eligible applicants will be provided with an Offer of Admission as a Dual Admission – (activation) student. The applicant confirms the offer by submitting a copy of the Confirmation of Acceptance and paying the tuition deposit to the University of Lethbridge. Non-qualified applicants will receive appropriate communication regarding their options.

For Admission to Term Starting Deadline to Apply for Dual Admission Deadline to Activate Enrolment to provide access to Early Registration Deadline to Activate Enrolment to provide access to General Registration

Starting in January* Dec. 15 of the year prior (13 months prior) to attending Oct. 1 in the term prior to attending for Early Registration which starts Nov. 1 Refer to Admissions and Document Deadlines

*Some programs only accept students for enrolment in the fall term starting in September. Individuals may register in courses as Open Studies students prior to being admitted into a program.

Transfer credit will be awarded for all successfully completed courses, on a course-by-course basis where an agreement exists between the Partner Institution and the University of Lethbridge. Final transcripts from the Partner Institution and all other post-secondary institutions are required by the University of Lethbridge prior to attending to ensure all relevant transfer credit is awarded.

Only Partner Institution courses are used to meet the minimum credit requirements for Dual Admission.

Students must contact an academic advisor at the Partner Institution regarding taking courses outside of the Partner Institution or the University of Lethbridge while dually enrolled, and may be referred to a University of Lethbridge academic advisor.

Early registration periods in the fall and winter terms at the University of Lethbridge provide for registration access to courses based on University of Lethbridge courses successfully completed and transfer credits awarded prior to the beginning of the registration period.

General registration opens shortly after the completion of the early registration period and continues through the add/drop period at the beginning of each term.

Dually admitted students who have activated their enrolment by accepting their offer and paying the tuition deposit will have access to the registration period in effect the day after the deposit is received. If the deposit is received prior to the early registration period, access will be granted to the early registration period.

The number of successfully completed University of Lethbridge credits and transfer credits awarded are used to determine early registration dates. In progress courses at the Partner Institution, where transfer credit has not yet been awarded, cannot be included for the purposes of early registration.

Successfully completed University of Lethbridge and transfer courses are also used to meet prerequisite requirements in next-level courses. A student who has activated their enrolment at the University of Lethbridge but not yet attending the University of Lethbridge, may contact the appropriate University of Lethbridge academic advising office if they are currently enrolled in Partner Institution courses (which have not yet been assessed for transfer credit at the University of Lethbridge) that may meet prerequisite requirements.

Students should begin working with the Co-op office at least six months in advance of their intended co-op term.

If an applicant chooses to participate in Co-op prior to activating enrolment then they will enrol as Open Studies students at the University of Lethbridge.
