Surgical Suite User Fees

The new Surgical Suite User Fees are tariffs charged per bloc of surgical suite booking time to the Principal Investigators against their research grants. These new fees are established to recover a percentage of the cost associated with the surgical suites care and maintenance required to provide safe and functional surgical spaces in accordance with Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC), Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Medicine (CALAM), and Alberta Veterinary Medical Association (ABVMA) regulations and guidelines. These Surgical Suite User Fees are commonly implemented across the country and are lower in comparison to other Alberta Universities.

The new recovered fees are not intended to be used for the purchase of surgical supplies and oxygen cylinders, neither to cover the cost of rodent surgical training or veterinary care but to relieve a portion of the financial weight associated with the surgical suites care and maintenance duties.

With the effort of preserving effective operation of the vivarium aligned with regulatory compliance as well as achieving a balanced budget, please take note that as of April 1st, 2023, the new Surgical Suite User Fees will be charged as per the following:

Fees per bloc of ACS Scheduler surgical suite booking time

≤ 1 hour $10.00
>1 hour to ≤ 5 hours $25.00
>5 hours $40.00

The University is located on traditional Blackfoot Confederacy territory. We honour the Blackfoot people and their traditional ways of knowing in caring for this land, as well as all Aboriginal peoples who have helped shape and continue to strengthen our University community.
