Research Ethics Policies

Tri-Agency Framework: Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)

The RCR framework emphasizes the importance of integrity, accountability, and transparency in research. It outlines expectations for responsible conduct, including proper data management, ethical use of funds, and the prevention of misconduct.

Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS2-2022)

The TCPS2-2022 provides requirements for conducting research involving human participants, ensuring respect for human dignity, privacy, and welfare. It covers topics such as properly obtaining informed consent, balancing potential risks and benefits, and promoting fairness.

Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) Guidelines

The CCAC provides requirements for the ethical care and use of animals in science. It promotes humane treatment, proper housing, and minimizing harm to animals involved in research.

Research Ethics & Safety

The Office of Research Ethics is responsible for the administration of the ethics review and approval process for research involving human participants and research, teaching, or testing using animal subjects. It is the responsibility of the researcher to ensure that the appropriate approvals are obtained in advance of the research being done, whether the research is funded or unfunded, and it is the responsibility of the Research Ethics Board (REB) to determine if a project involving human research participants requires ethics approval.
