Safeguarding Your Research
WHY SAFEGUARDING YOUR RESEARCH IS IMPORTANT
Canadian-led research can be an attractive target for those seeking to steal, use, and adapt it for our own advantages and gains. This includes research that could be applied to the strategic, military, or intelligence capabilities of other countries.
SECURE LAPTOP LENDING PROGRAM
The University is committed to ensuring the safety and security of its instructors traveling to countries that present potential risks. This Lending Program provides secure devices configured to minimize the risk to personal and sensitive information.
The program is for Academic Research Staff traveling internationally on short-term University business, or when travel has the potential to cause data exposure. Taking work laptops or mobile devices abroad increases the risk of data and identity theft. The loaner program ensures access to necessary applications and information while minimizing sensitive data carried. Loaner devices help to reduce exposure to data that may be accessed by foreign officials or unauthorized access to the University's IT systems.
Travellers must strictly follow the procedures and timeline outlined in the guide to qualify for this program. To prevent complications or disqualification from participation, all necessary steps must be completed within the specified timeframes.
