Safeguarding Your Research

WHY SAFEGUARDING YOUR RESEARCH IS IMPORTANT

Canada’s world-leading research thrives on open scholarship and strong international collaboration.

However, this openness and collaborative approach can also create vulnerabilities to those who will go to any means to access, steal, and benefit from this research. For this reason, it is important for researchers to be aware of key areas of risk:

  • Cybersecurity
  • People
  • Partnerships
  • Physical Space
  • Intellectual Property

FEDERAL POLICIES & GUIDELINES

To safeguard the integrity of research from unintended access and use, the Government of Canada has implemented various research security policies, guidelines, and requirements for funded research projects.

Policy on Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern (STRAC)

National Security Guidelines for Research Partnerships (NSGRP)

UNIVERSITY RESOURCES

The University has developed resources to support researchers in implementing best practices to safeguard their research and navigate the security requirements of government and funding agencies.
