Safe Work Procedure |
- Visually inspect area for possible hazards
- Dust off newly constructed wood item with Air Compressor prior to commencing work
- Refer to Safe Work Practice for “Use of Compressed Air” as found in Appendix ‘A’
- Seal the wood using designated product
- Refer to a follow product labels and any MSDS available for any required personal protective equipment and safety precautions necessary
- Use Air Sander to smooth rough edges and surfaces after sealant has dried
- Dust off using Air Compressor.
- Wipe down using tack cloth to remove any debris left by compressed air
- Apply 2 coats of finish, allowing adequate time between coats for finish to properly dry
Painting Newly Constructed Items
- For painting of office furniture, display cases, bookcases, cabinets, podiums etc. constructed by the University of Lethbridge Carpenters, finish according to work order
Painting of Metal Items
- For painting of welded projects constructed by the University of Lethbridge Welders, sand, prime, and paint according to work order
- Depending on the amount of rusting, sand blasting may be necessary
- Face shield must be worn when operating sandblaster
- Refer to Operator’s Manual for safe operation of sandblaster
Painting Outsides of Buildings
- If the outside of a building needs to be sandblasted, an outside contractor may be used
Painting Westcastle & Blairmore Locations
- Scaffolds are to be set up for painting of Westcastle and Blairmore; Airless sprayer is to be used to paint outsides of buildings at these locations.
