Araba Kukua Adenu-Mensah | Student Testimonial

I have met amazing people I will cherish for a long time.

Araba Kukua Adenu-Mensah

BSc. Psychology | Student from Ghana

Where are you from?

The very beautiful and tropical coast of the Atlantic Ocean, Ghana.

What is your major/field of study and when do you anticipate graduating?

I’m a psychology major, and my anticipated graduation date is June 2023, baby!!!!

Why did you choose the University of Lethbridge?

That new science building, no cap. I was such a chem nerd coming in, and the periodic table on the 8th floor always soothes me. To me, it is so mesmerizing.

Describe your experience at the UofL?

I have had a rollercoaster of experiences here, from having only one or 2 ‘normal’ in person semesters to being in my final year already. I have made the most of it by joining clubs, volunteering, seeking mentorship from individuals who have the results I want and still remember the student experience. Despite the majority of my time being online, I have met amazing people I will cherish for a long time.

What are your hopes/plans for the future?

I hope to work in tech as a UX researcher, UI designer, or interaction designer.

Do you believe your program is preparing you to reach your future goals?

Yes, I do. I love the fact that psychology teaches me about myself, my approach to life and the neurodiversity of people as well as social psychology. Using these enables me to gain more insight into designing for accessibility and improving User Experiences.

Is there someone specific who had an important influence on your University of Lethbridge experience?

Martha (EDIA director) and Erasmus (Pro-Vost) have been huge influences on me (they may not know this) but seeing aspects of a shared culture reflected in their work is inspiring to me.

What do you enjoy the most about attending the U of L?

The view of the coulees and the people.

What one word or phrase would you use to describe the U of L?

Journey.

What advice would you give to students who are about to begin their postsecondary journey?

Put yourself out there, don’t take things too seriously, but know you’re a student first. Give yourself grace, connect with people, network.

How has studying in Canada at the University of Lethbridge changed you or changed your life?

I have met people and taken courses that have either strengthened my self-image or changed my belief about certain concepts. I am a better person and a forever learner as a result.

Would you recommend the U of L to other students?

Yes!

How would you describe your experience in the greater Lethbridge community?

It’s definitely interesting. You meet a diverse population, people coming and going. It's honestly what you make of it.

Name one fun thing you loved to do while studying in Lethbridge.

Volunteering with Rotary clubs and Rotaract.

In your opinion, what is the most noteworthy attribute of the city of Lethbridge?

Snow does not stay too long on the ground as in other cities in Alberta.
