The Scholarships
The Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships aim to mobilize a dynamic community of young global leaders to create lasting impacts both at home and abroad through inter-cultural exchanges encompassing international education, discovery and inquiry, and professional experiences.
Key achievements to date
- More than 2,600 scholarships awarded to date
- 55 Canadian universities and colleges have successfully competed for QES project funding
- 134 projects have been funded at those universities
- Queen Elizabeth Scholars have gone to or come from more than 80 countries
- 650 partner organizations abroad have been engaged (universities, NGOs, research institutes)
Available 2026 QES Programs
The available programs for Fall 2026 are hosted by the following UMAP member institutions. Eligible students must apply and be nominated in the USCO system before January 28, 2026. Once selected, students will then need to complete an exchange application.
Program Details
Participate in a one-semester exchange program focused on interdisciplinary approaches to the adaptation, response, and resilience to a changing climate, while enhancing academic diplomacy. In addition to taking courses, you will complete a community engagement project and/or research internship with support from the host institution. You will also participate in activities like virtual check-ins, mentorship, on-the-ground facilitators, and a variety of professional training and networking.

Available Funding
Successful applicants will receive an award ranging between $7,500 and $8,500 CAD; disbursed directly to students.
The scholarship value will be based on the type and length of the program developed by the host institution, as well as the geographical location of their institution.
The award amount is determined based on estimates for eligible expenses in the placement context. Eligible expenses include:
- Travel expenses – international airfare, the most direct and economical route, visas, medical insurance, immunization, ground transportation
- Living allowance – including accommodation, local transportation, food, communications, and all other personal expenses
Details and Eligibility
To be eligible for the 2026 QES program scholarship, you must:
- Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Be 35 years of age or younger at the time of application
- Be a full-time ULethbridge student
- Be in at least the third year of your undergraduate program or in a Master or Doctoral program
- Not previously awarded QES funding
- Be nominated by ULethbridge and accepted by the Host Institution in the UMAP USCO System. Note that some programs require and intermediate Spanish language proficiency.
Timeline for Fall 2026 Placements:
- Student UMAP Application Deadline: January 28
- UMAP Nomination Deadline: January 30, 2026
- Student Selection and Acceptance Period: February 2-20, 2026
- ULethbridge Exchange Application Deadline: February 20, 2026
- Pre-departure Processes Begin: March-June 2026
- Programs begin in host countries: July-October 2026
- QES Programs End in Host Countries: November-December 2026
Physical Mobility
One academic term (3-4 months) depending of program selected.
