Program description

Public health is focused on prevention rather than the treatment of disease. It examines the overall health of a population with the aim of developing strategies to promote and protect health.

Through course work and hands-on experience, the public health major at uLethbridge will provide you with the skills and tools needed to prevent disease/injury and to promote, and protect the health and well-being of Canadians and populations across the globe.

The core of our work in public health is to take steps to prevent chronic and infectious disease before it occurs. Join us to be part of this exciting and rapidly expanding field and have a positive influence on your world!

If you would like to discuss careers and opportunities within public health, we invite you to speak with our academic advisor or an instructor in the public health program.

Post-Diploma Program
The two-year post-diploma Public Health major with Health Leadership minor provides students who have already completed an approved diploma with the education and skills to succeed in the workplace and advance their career opportunities.
Combined Degree Programs

The Bachelor of Health Sciences (Public Health)/Bachelor of Management program is designed to provide you with the skills and training needed to excel in the many public health positions that require expertise in management, human resources and labour relations.

Note: Combined degrees are only available at the Lethbridge campus.

Experiential Learning

You may choose to complete a practicum placement, co-operative education studies, applied studies and independent studies to gain experience in public health practice, or an undergraduate (honours) thesis to gain research experience. Local, national and international placement opportunities are available, and you will have the opportunity to be mentored by those who are working or conducting research in the field of public health.
