Faculty of Fine Arts Volunteer Opportunities

University Theatres Usher

Contact: Amanda Berg

Sign up at the U of L Box Office (Level 5 Centre for the Arts) to usher for all Faculty of Fine Arts ticketed productions or concerts. Ushers can see the show for free! Sign-up starts at the beginning of each term and is open until all usher spots are filled. Ushers are expected to arrive one hour prior to showtime to attend an orientation with the Front of House Manager, and will rip tickets, hand out programs and help patrons navigate to their seats. Ushers are expected to stay for the full duration of each performance they've signed up for.

Student for a Day Host

Volunteer Host Form

The Student for a Day program is an opportunity for a current student to host a prospective student interested their Fine Arts program. Being a host would mean having a “shadow” for the day to show/tell them all the wonderful things about your program, attend your classes, answer questions etc. They will also have meetings scheduled with relevant Faculty and/or staff for more detailed questions.  Hosting only occurs October - November and February - March.

For your hard work, we will be providing you and the guest student with a lunch voucher to have lunch on us and a choice of Fine Arts swag! Your time will count as volunteer hours and, you will get a reference letter to help build your resume.

New West Theatre education programs are looking for teacher assistants!

Volunteer Position – Teachers Assistant
If you are interested in education, this is a fantastic opportunity to see classroom management, theatre creation, and lesson planning in action!  Your responsibilities in this position are to support the teacher by building relationships with kids, helping lead games, participating in theatre creation, and having fun!

The Commitment
Our 10-week program runs either Monday or Wednesday nights, starting the week of February 7. Our greatest need is having a volunteer from 5:10 to 6:45pm each night but would love to have someone to help with both classes if they are available.  We understand that this is a volunteer position and are happy to work with student schedules.

Musical Theatre Class Mondays: Ages 6 – 8 (5:30pm – 6:30pm) / Ages 13 – 18 (6:45pm – 8:00pm)

Theatre Class Wednesdays: Ages 6 – 8 (5:30pm – 6:30pm) / Ages 9 – 12 (6:45pm – 8:00pm)

Working with us in the Future
Volunteering gives you the opportunity to check us out and understand the culture that we are growing within our programs. We have year-round paid positions such as camp and class leaders and this is a great way for you to see if New West education programs are for you!
