- Book an appointment with a Career Coach for guidance in updating your LinkedIn profile or your resume.
- Attend workshops, to build your skills.
- Research the Companies
- Review the list of organizations coming to Career Fair
- Learn about the organization's that interest you values, recent news, & open positions.
- Prepare your Pitch
- Craft a 30-60 introduction that includes your background, skills, and experience.
- End your pitch with a question to continue the conversation.
- Practice until your pitch feels natural.
- Dress Professionally
- Dress in business or business- casual attire.
- Ensure your clothing is clean and ironed.
- Approach with Confidence
- Begin with a firm handshake.
- Deliver your Pitch with Confidence.
- Talk with as many employers as you can
- Be sure to talk to a variety of employers, even ones that don’t seem directly related to your major.
- Many companies hire for a wide range of roles, you may find opportunities where you least expect them.
- Manage your Time
- Prioritize meeting your top companies.
- Leave of few minutes of extra time to explore other organizations that may offer hidden opportunities.
- Have Fun & Network
- Don’t stress! Explore, and enjoy the lively atmosphere
- Network! Network! Network! To connect with potential employers and peers.
- Connect on LinkedIn
- If appropriate send a LinkedIn connection request.
- Attach a brief message to your request reminding them of your interaction at Career Fair.
- Apply to Open Positions
- If directed by recruiter, apply online and mention the conversation had with recruiter.
- If you are a Co-op student browse the Co-op job board.
- Follow Up
- Send a personalized thank-you email to the recruiters you spoke with, ideally within 24 - 48 hours.
- Reference something specific from your conversation to make a memorable impression.
- Reflect & Improve
- Review what went well and what could have been improved for next time.
- Update your list of companies or roles to apply for track any next steps.
- Book an appointment with a Career Coach or WIL Instructor to assist with next steps after Career Fair.
