Biography
Oki my Blackfoot name is Siikimiikatopii (Black Horse Rider) and my family name is Cody L Wells, and I am from the Kainai people of the Blackfoot Confederacy. Currently my profession is a student and a contractor in the construction business, I have been an electrician in the trades for over 15 years before I decided to go back to school and pursue a degree in business. As an electrical contractor operating on-reserve, I have seen the need for more business skills and the lack of appropriate business opportunities on our reserve. I wish to address and help alleviate these problems that perpetually effect our reserve. My passion involves art and would like to see more of our youth pursue an education in art. I have memories of drawing during class time and getting into trouble for it, I never dreamed of creating art at a university level. My major accomplishment is getting to see my three daughters grow and receiving my Journeyman Electrician Certificate, Masters License, Valedictorian from Red Crow College, and currently I am in my 4th year as a Bachelor of Management-First Nations Governance Degree at the University of Lethbridge. Art has helped me with creativity in my studies and has certainly shaped the way I will approach business and life.
