English Language Institute Open House

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program is a full-time, intensive English language program that consists of four possible levels: Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, High-Intermediate, and Advanced. Each level takes 12 weeks (one semester) to complete. The EAP Program provides students with the language skills necessary to succeed in a university environment. Successful completion of the Advanced level of the EAP program meets the University of Lethbridge's English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirement for entry into Undergraduate or Graduate programs.

The English Language Institute provides custom English language programs for domestic and international students in groups of 15 to 30 students. Programs for beginner to professional-level students are available. Custom programs incorporate 20 hours per week of English language instruction with cultural activities and events. Custom Programs may also include tours of the Rocky Mountains, including Banff and Waterton Lakes National Parks for horseback riding, camping, and sight-seeing.

The English Language Partner Program (ELPP) pairs International students with a Canadian student volunteer. Partners meet for approximately one hour per week. The ELPP focuses on conversational English skills and cultural exchange.

The Writing Tutoring Program (WTP) matches International students with uLethbridge volunteer tutors. Our volunteer tutors provide useful and informed feedback on students’ writing. Tutors help EAP students get started, find appropriate sources, brainstorm ideas, create outlines, work on thesis statements, structure and organize texts, maintain coherence and cohesion, and self-assess produced texts.
