Courtney Faulkner

I dedicated this semester to my undergrad thesis, Spatial Studies: Meditation and Mortality, researching the mutually entwined concepts of feminism, ritual, and witchcraft, through temporal installation art practices. I appreciate repetitive/meditative tasks, organizing thoughts into grids, aromatic organic materials (such as flowers and beeswax), and have recently began working in ceramics.

This past December, as a recipient of the Roloff Beny Award, I travelled to Mexico City with my sister Natasha. We rode red bicycles in the sunshine, ate delicious street food, witnessed the Virgin de Guadalupe celebrations, and made pilgrimage to Frida Kahlo’s two houses. I’ve been thinking of the women, non-binary, and queer artists that came before us, and how artmaking now is a connection and continuation of their work.
