Globalink Research Internship (GRI): Faculty

Expand the potential of highly skilled international students, broaden your department's research horizons, and play a key role in promoting Canada as a top destination for the world's brightest minds through the Globalink Research Internship (GRI). 

Program Details

Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI) is a competitive initiative for highly skilled international undergraduates to participate in a 12-week research internship under the supervision of uLethbridge faculty members in a variety of academic disciplines, from science, engineering, and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences. This internship opportunity allows professors to help futher the intern's research and supplement their learning through participation in career-building training courses and conferences.

How it Works

Faculty Application

Faculty submit research projects to Mitacs.

April to June

Student Application

International students submit applications and select research projects.

August to September

Matching

Professors review and rank student applications. Mitacs finalizes offers to students.

November to January

Pre-internship Preparation

Successful students start working with their host professors to arrange pre-internship details; Mitacs oversees logistics.

February to April

Internship

Globalink research interns arrive in Canada for their 12-week research project.

May to October

Eligibility

The 2026 call for applications is now closed. 

In order to be eligible for hosting interns as part of the Globalink Research Internship program, you must:

  • Have one of the following statuses at an eligible institution: Full professor, Associate professor, Assistant professor, Adjunct professor, Emeritus professor
  • Be able to supervise international students at your institution
  • Be able to host interns within the stipulated dates of the GRI program: Internships must start between May 1 and July 31 and must be delivered over the course of 12 consecutive week.
