Image

Living with Nature - Abrar Bin Darda

Believe it or not, this is a bridge constructed with living roots of the tree on the right. The Khasi tribe of the Laitkynsew village have learned to coexist with nature in such a beautiful and mysterious manner to construct the only double decker root bridge in the world.

CATEGORY WINNER: PEOPLE & CULTURE

Image

Las Palenqueras - Carl Abellana

Here's a shot of the fruit basket ladies of Cartagena, Colombia. These captivating women in colourful dresses expertly balancing bowls of tropical fruit on their heads in Cartagena’s historic old town became Colombia’s most popular symbol. You’ve noticed them on the front of every Colombia travel guide and you’ll also find them depicted on numerous souvenirs.

SOCIAL MEDIA PEOPLE'S CHOICE WINNER

Image

Bhela - Abrar Bin Darda

"Bhela" means raft in Bangla. This photo was taken during a trek to see a remote waterfall in the forest of Remakri, Bandarban. Portion of the trek included an impassable section of mountains and boulders, where we had to use the bamboo raft used by the native tribal people.

The International Centre would like to send out a huge thank you to everyone who submitted their beautiful photos for our contest this year, and everyone who voted for their favourite photos.

FINALISTS: CITIES & LANDSCAPES CATEGORY

Image

Drapetomania - Sakura Afin Oni

This picture was taken in front of my house. I had a pretty rough day and I was feeling like running away from everything and then my eye caught this breath taking view which calmed my mind and gave me peace. Sometimes you can find peace in the simplest things around you. So keep looking.

Image

Obstacles - Dilini Abeyrama

Obstacles make it not just hard, but beautiful also.

This photo was taken closer to the lower falls of the Johnston Canyon. Obstacles make a river beautiful. A waterfall is formed when a river meets a bigger obstacle. Likewise, life is also a lot more beautiful when we have to face obstacles.

Busy Havana - Asnate Fomina

One of the streets in Havana, where the view of antique cars and classic lifestyle of Cubans take place.

Image

The Hills of Guilin - Sabrina Schwille

Taken on a river boat through the hills of Guilin, China along the Li River. These are the most beautiful karst mountains in the world, but polluted by the tourism around it. All those boats taking tourists through the valley expel tons of oil each day.

The Ladies of the Rice Field - Sabrina Schwille

Taken in one of China’s most beautiful rice fields, we met two farmers on our way.

Cuban Children - Asnate Fomina

The first thing that brings attention in the picture is the eyes of both children - beautiful and hopeful look. Two boys looking outside to the street from their apartment.

Dog Day Afternoon - Candace Dueck

A puppy peeking out from beneath its owner's table at an open market. Location: Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan Province, China
