Digital Fine Arts Lab & Large Format Printing

Room with computer workstations, tablets, and printers

Location: W813

The Digital Fine Arts Lab (W813) is equipped with 8 iMac computers installed with Adobe Creative Suite and the latest version of Rhino; an Epson 3880 printer for class-related use; Epson scanners including an Epson Perfection 11000XL for scans up to 12” x 17” (30.48cm x 43.18cm); and a Windows computer with 20" Wacom Cintiq.

Art Students can request 24-hour access to the lab if they are enrolled in a class which necessitates using the equipment and software to complete assignments. Please contact one of the Art Department Technicians for details.

Digital Arts Technician

The Digital Arts Technician is located in W814, and is in charge of large format digital printing and maintaining the inventory of digital equipment including cameras and sound recorders, lighting kits, tripods, and medium to large format film cameras.

Art students who need digital equipment to complete assignments can sign it out for 24 hours. For details on the rental fee and lending agreement, see Art Tools Rental Fee.

If you are returning borrowed equipment outside of the Digital Arts Technician’s hours, you must give it directly to one of the other Technical Staff in W838. Do not leave equipment unattended.

Large Format Printing

Large format digital printing is done by the Digital Arts Technician, and is available to Art students and faculty. The ink jet printer, an Epson SureColor P9570, can produce photographic-quality prints up to 44” (111.76cm) wide, with the option of printing on Epson Premium Luster or Somerset Velvet paper. Generally, single print jobs can be completed within the hour, although during high-volume periods this may not be possible.

Acceptable image formats are JPEG, TIFF, PSD, and PDF; please bring your image, on a USB flash drive or external hard drive, to the Digital Arts Technician.

See the Digital Arts Technician Hours for times when printing is possible.

Please note that large format printing is not available on Mondays.

Fees for printing are charged on a cost-recovery basis. Invoices are sent via email and can be paid at the Cash Office in Anderson Hall (AH144).
