Jessica Colley
Buchanan Curatorial Assistant
About
Hi there! My name is Jessica Colley (she/her). I graduated from the University of Lethbridge in 2020 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and again in 2024 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art History and Museum Studies (With Great Distinction). As a student, I had the incredible opportunity of participating in four total internships, working with institutions such as the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, and the University of Lethbridge Art Gallery, where I am now employed as the Buchanan Curatorial Assistant.
I am often asked "what does a curatorial assistant do?" I like to think of my job as visual storytelling. I get to research, interpret and share artworks with the public, creating spaces where people can discover something new, engage in conversations with one another, and enjoy a small part of our incredible art collection. Whether someone is a first time visitor or a seasoned gallery goer, my goal is to create opportunities for people to engage with art in a way that is both personal and meaningful.
When I am not working at the gallery, you can find me working on one of my many half-finished crafting projects, playing video games, and volunteering with Girl Guides of Canada.
