Our best tips to make the most out of Career Fair
Elevator Pitch
Use this brief one-minute introduction to confidently communicate who you are and what you bring to the table.
Start with a quick intro – Share your name, your program or major, and your current year of study.
Talk about your academic or career focus – Explain what excites you about your field or what you hope to contribute through your work.
Show the value you offer – Highlight how your abilities or experiences can support a team, solve challenges, or create impact.
Mention what sets you apart – Briefly note a standout quality, accomplishment, or unique perspective you bring.
End with a next step – Wrap up by saying what you’re hoping for, such as connecting further, exploring co-op roles, or continuing the conversation.
Research Companies
Take time before the event to explore which organizations will be attending and decide which ones you’d most like to speak with. When gathering information about potential employers, consider looking into:
Where the company operates and its primary locations
What products, services, or solutions they provide
Their careers or job opportunities page—check the Job Board on MyExperience or their website
Their presence on platforms like LinkedIn or Instagram for updates and culture insights
Recent news or announcements found through a quick web search
Preparing personalized questions in advance shows initiative and helps you have more meaningful conversations at the fair.
Career Fair Art Competition
This competition offers a unique platform for ULethbridge student artists and alumni. The winning artwork will be purchased by The University of Lethbridge, reproduced as a limited edition print run, and presented as a special signed gift to our valued employer partners and stakeholders attending the Fall Career Fair. Imagine your art displayed in offices and boardrooms across various organizations and on both ULethbridge campuses!
Volunteer at Career Fair
Volunteering is the best way to stand out at Career Fair! Gain professional experience, build your resume, and connect with potential employers and campus professionals. Exceptional volunteers may even receive a reference letter from the University of Lethbridge, and all volunteers are thanked with a gift card.

Before the Career Fair
- Update your resume (tailored for specific industries if possible)
- Book a resume review appointment through MyExperience
- Research participating employers (know what they do, open positions, and why you’re interested)
- Prepare your elevator pitch (30–60 second intro: who you are, what you study, what you’re seeking)
- Draft a list of questions to ask employers (e.g., about company culture, roles, and application tips)
- Choose professional attire (business casual or business formal, depending on industry)
- Practice interview or networking skills with a friend or book a mock session with a Career Coach
Test your handshake & body language—make eye contact, smile, and stand confidently
During the Career Fair- Arrive early and review the event map or list of employers
- Start with a warm-up conversation at a less intimidating booth or with Career Bridge Staff
- Introduce yourself confidently with your elevator pitch
- Ask thoughtful questions—avoid questions like “What do you do?”
- Take notes after each conversation (who you spoke to, what they said, next steps)
- Collect business cards or contact details when possible
- Visit booths even if you’re unsure—you may discover hidden opportunities
- Use the free headshot services for LinkedIn or professional use
- Be respectful of employers’ time—keep conversations concise
Take breaks if needed; career fairs can be overwhelming
After the Career Fair
- Follow through to keep the momentum going.
- Send thank-you emails within 48 hours
- Mention something specific from your conversation
- Reaffirm your interest in their company
- Apply to jobs/co-ops you learned about—tailor your resume/cover letter accordingly
- Follow up on any requested actions (e.g., email your resume, fill out an application)
- Reflect on the event: What went well? What would you do differently next time?
- Book a follow-up appointment with Career Services if you need help applying or preparing
- Track your leads and contacts in a spreadsheet or notes app
