Women & Gender Studies is a dynamic, inter-disciplinary department at the University of Lethbridge, offering both undergraduate (BA) and graduate (MA) degrees. Our course offerings and faculty research are at the forefront of innovative thinking about contemporary social issues including (but not limited to) Indigenous rights and settler colonialism, the politics of Pride, reproductive justice, global migrations, human rights & political economies, and representations of gender in politics, the workplace and popular culture.

Our faculty conduct research locally, nationally and globally, and build strong working relationships across disciplines, both at the University of Lethbridge and with national and transnational feminist and allied scholars. Our department is connected with research institutes such as the Centre for Oral History & Tradition, the Institute for Child & Youth Studies, and the Prentice Institute. Our teaching practices range from project based Independent and Applied Studies, through working with archives and community groups, fieldwork courses abroad to traditional lectures and film-based studies. WGST faculty provide quality academic mentorship so that students build strong critical thinking, writing, and research skills.

We offer a vibrant intellectual and socially engaged environment for both undergraduate and graduate students to participate in and contribute to.

Women & Gender Studies is a force for social change in our world. Students graduating from our program will have skills to pursue careers in diverse fields of social work, education, law, business, and the nonprofit sector.
