This combined program takes five years to complete and you graduate with two degrees. Your BA (Art) degree covers the subject you want to teach and the Education degree (BEd) consists of three professional semesters providing practical experience through supervised placements in schools.
This general program has fewer required art courses than the BFA - Art degree and enables you to build around your various interests.
Students who are interested in teaching are encouraged to pursue the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education degree. The flexibility of this stream will allow you to gain a diversified set of qualifications that better meets the needs of multi-subject teaching common in schools.

The Bachelor of Arts (Art) and Bachelor of Education are 5-year combined degrees with K-12 experience through the Faculty of Education.

What you need to know as a current student in this program
The Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Education jointly offer a 50-course (150.0 credit hour) Combined Degrees program leading to the degrees Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Education (BEd). Upon successful completion of the Combined Degrees program, you receive the BA (Art) degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts and the BEd degree from the Faculty of Education.
For the BA (Art) program there are some required courses that provide a foundation for your major, but you have flexibility in choosing your courses for the path and creative study you wish to take. Refer to your Program Planning Guide in your calendar year for the courses you'll need to take and choose from within the Art Studio lists, Art History/Museum Studies lists and as Art Electives.
- at least 30 courses (90.0 credit hours) with cumulative and graduation grade point averages of at least 2.00;
- 13 required art courses (39.0 credit hours);
- at least 10 courses (30.0 credit hours) at the 3000/4000 level;
- Completion of the Liberal Education List Requirement.
Remember that program requirements vary depending on the calendar year, which is usually the year of admission (or readmission) to ULethbridge. Therefore, requirements may differ from year to year even within the same major.
