How to Prepare for Your CAC Session

Make the most of your experience by following these steps:

Resume or Draft Materials

Bring a draft of your resume or information you can use to build one (e.g., past job details, education history, skills, accomplishments).

You'll be working on your resume during the session.

Do not come empty-handed—this session is hands-on.

Laptop or Device for Engagement

  • If you're attending in person, please bring a charged laptop or device so you can work on projects during the session.

  • If you're joining virtually, make sure you:

    • Are in a quiet space where you can focus

    • Have access to a camera and microphone

    • Are ready to actively participate in breakout discussions and activities

Minimum Requirements for Application Documents

To ensure success in the Co-op Admissions Course, please prepare the following documents:

  • Contact information (student name, phone number, uleth email address)
  • Educational background (degree information, GPA, Awards)
  • Relevant Experience (paid, volunteer or coursework) with dates and locations
  • Skills and qualifications you possess relevant to the desired job or field
  • Any relevant certifications or training with dates and locations

Cover Letter Minimum Requirements

During the course, we will discuss the layout and additional requirements for cover letters. We will also utilize the Co-op Job Posting Samples (utilizing real job posting samples to gain inspiration and to help you build a mock cover letter.

References Minimum Requirement

While we will discuss the layout and additional requirements for references during the course, it would be helpful to start thinking about individuals who could serve as references for you.

Learn about the importance of references and how to effectively include them in your application. Utilize the provided template to organize your reference information for guidance in organizing your reference information.

By adhering to the minimum requirements and utilizing the provided resources, you will be well-prepared to participate in the Co-op Admissions Course and optimize your chances of success.

Additional Support

While attending the course, you will have the opportunity to address the following topics individually with an Admissions Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Instructor as needed. If you would like to discuss any of these criteria beforehand, please feel free to contact us at coop@uleth.ca.

  • International Student Requirements: Gain insights into the specific considerations and unique opportunities available to international students within the Co-op Program.
  • Graduate Student Requirements: Explore tailored resources and receive guidance specifically designed to support graduate students in pursuing co-op opportunities.
  • Low GPA Support: Discover strategies for active participation in the Co-op Program, even if you have a low GPA. Explore alternative avenues to showcase your potential and succeed in your career journey.
  • Access, Allyship, or Accommodation Requirements: If you have specific accessibility needs, require allyship, or need accommodations during the course, please inform us in advance. We are committed to providing the necessary support to ensure an inclusive and positive experience.

Contracts

Joining the Co-op program is an exciting milestone in your academic and professional journey. As part of this process, you’ll be asked to review and sign important documents:

  • Co-op Contract (for all students)

  • Co-op International Contract (for international students only)

These contracts outline the terms and expectations of your participation in the program.

You’ll receive all the information and support you need to understand these documents during the Co-op Admissions Course—do not sign them beforehand.  Note: If you do not attend a Co-op Admissions Course, any contracts signed in advance may be considered void.

 

Important: When reviewing your contract via the PowerForm link, do not change the receiver information. This ensures a copy is automatically sent to the Co-op Office for your records.
