Welcome to the Faculty of Education!

What makes our teacher preparation program so unique?

Here at ULethbridge Faculty of Education, you benefit from one of the most unique teacher training programs in the country. With 27 weeks of practical classroom experience, you’ll receive more than twice the amount required for teacher certification in Alberta. You will also be qualified to teach in both secondary and elementary classrooms, creating vast opportunities for you throughout your career as an educator.

The teacher education program can be completed in two ways:

Combined Degrees program

A five year program which results in simultaneous granting of two degrees.

How it works:
  • You’ll need to complete 50-courses over 5 years
  • At least 30 of those courses needs to be in your chosen first degree in one of a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Management
  • Your major needs to include a teachable school subject
  • 20 of the 50 courses need to be in Education

After Degree

For those who already have a completed degree. The After Degree program consists of 20 U of L courses:

How it works:
  • Education 2500 (or its equivalent) which must be taken prior to admission
  • Professional Semester One (PS I)
  • Professional Semester Two (PS II)
  • Professional Semester Three (PS III)
  • One Educational Foundation course
  • Three (or four) Education electives
