Brain Awareness Week

BRAIN AWARENESS WEEK

Join us for Neuroscience Discovery
March 10 - 15, 2025

There have been significant advances in brain research in recent years, increasing understanding of the brain and raising awareness and support for ongoing research.

Join University of Lethbridge researchers, students and community partners in the lead up to and during Brain Awareness Week to learn more about these advances and what they mean for overall brain health.

 

Events schedule for Brain Awareness Week:

Brainstorm documentary poster

BrainStorm screening and panel discussion

Public screening of the  local documentary "BrainStorm" that highlights the history and accomplishments of CCBN and professors Drs. Bryan Kolb and Ian Whishaw, followed by a Q&A panel featuring Drs. Whishaw, Kolb and Robbin Gibb, and the documentary director, Jenna Bailey.

Public talk: Brain development and social justice: The good, the bad, and the ugly

Speaker: Dr. Bryan Kolb, University of Lethbridge Department of Neuroscience emeritus

 Bio: Bryan Kolb is currently an Emeritus Professor in the Department Neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge, where he has been since 1976.  His recent work has focused on the development of the prefrontal cortex and how neurons of the cerebral cortex change in response to various pre- and postnatal developmental factors including hormones, experience, stress, psychoactive drugs, neurotrophins, noise, and injury, and how these changes are related to adult behaviour in laboratory animals and children.  He has published 7 books, including two textbooks with Ian Whishaw (Fundamentals of Human Neuropsychology, now in its Eighth Edition; Introduction to Brain and Behavior, now in its Seventh Edition), and over 450 articles and chapters.  Kolb is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and an Officer of the Order of Canada.

FREE event that everyone is welcome to attend! Free parking, activities for children. Check out Canada’s most advanced facility for science education.
