The Dhillon School of Business' Student Professional Development is open and free to all Dhillon School of Business students in any year of your degree. This program works with local organizations to deliver free industry networking and speaker events, online training, case competitions and more. Annually selected program topics stem from current industry trends and in-demand skills identified by employers. These opportunities will help develop your work-ready skills beyond the classroom and expose you to current industry topics. You’ll have a record of your participation in these non-credit activities on your MyExperience transcript.

Upcoming events and workshops

If you are a current student interested in registering for Dhillon School of Business Student Professional Development events and workshops, go to myexperience.ulethbridge.ca, click on the Students tab along the top and log in using your University of Lethbridge login credentials. Once logged in, click on Events & Workshops from the menu on the left. Look for the calendar entries in black with white text beginning with Dhillon School of Business - Student Professional Development. Click here for a complete set of instructions, including images. A co-curricular record of the beyond the classroom experiences that you take part in can be printed at the end of each year.

Events that create the opportunity to network with industry professionals/employers, and the opportunity to hear from those working in industry and/or knowledge experts on topics of current relevance within the business sector.

Workshops featuring topics critical to professional success (ex. Networking, Leadership, Communication, Emotional Intelligence).
Information Sessions by professional organizations like: CPA (Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta), CFA (Chartered Financial Analysis), CPHR (Chartered Professionals in Human Resources), CMA (Calgary Marketing Association).

Internal Case Competitions

Case competitions

Case competitions allow you to analyze a business challenge or participate in a virtual simulation, and use the theories you've learned in class to create innovative solutions. Once you've come up with your problem-solving plan, you'll present in teams to a panel of industry and academic judges with your peers. You could be selected to represent the Dhillon School of Business through participation on teams that are coached by faculty members and compete in provincial or national competitions against other schools.

Student conference and case competition funding

There is funding available through Student PD for participating in external case competitions where a team represents DSB, and for students presenting academic research at a conference. More information, including how to apply, is available on the Student Professional Development funding page.
