Writing Workshops at the English Language Institute

What do we offer?

We offer writing support to English for Academic Purposes (EAP) students who are looking for improving their academic writing skills. Our volunteer tutors provide useful and informed feedback on EAP students’ writing at different writing stages. Tutors help EAP students get started, search sources, brainstorm ideas, create outlines, work on thesis statement, structure & organize texts, maintain coherence & cohesion, and self-assess produced texts. Tutors do not write, proofread, or edit EAP students’ writing. Rather, they provide higher order thinking on their writing such as feedback on good introduction & conclusion, strong thesis statement, relevant supporting points & details, unity, organization, coherence & cohesion, and language usage.

How do the workshops function?

The workshops are run on one-on-one session base in which an EAP student works with a tutor on a certain area of writing. Each session takes up to 30 minutes in length. EAP students bring a copy of the assignment sheet, notes, outlines, or drafts they already created to work on with their tutors. Both EAP students and their tutors set goal/s and strive to achieve it/them. Dates and places of the workshops are to be determined shortly.
