Program description

The Certificate in Arts and Science is a university-level certificate program that may be completed in as little as one year of full-time study or may be completed on a part-time basis.

Students who complete the certificate may qualify for a degree program, and use their certificate credits towards their degree, through the Post-Secondary Admission Route.

To be eligible for admission to the Certificate in Arts and Science, students must present a passing grade in English Language Arts 30-1, or an equivalent course. Applicants may also qualify for admission to the Certificate in Arts and Science through the Post-Secondary Admission Route.

Students need to choose from one of thirteen Streams

Admission requirements

Program-AS-UC

​​Canadian high school students in Alberta must have a passing grade in English 30-1 or an equivalent course to be eligible for admission to this program.

Additional information

Students may complete the ten-course certificate program on a part-time or full-time basis and may then apply for a degree program if desired, with the courses from the certificate meeting requirements in the degree.

The program is easily accessible, with fewer admission requirements than a bachelor’s degree. The certificate maintains our commitment to liberal education and students have an opportunity to complete a variety of courses.

Students must declare either an arts or science stream, that provides a brief introduction to the subject area and allows students to ladder into the major.
