DSB Course Registration

What are Dhillon School of Business (DSB) courses?

DSB courses include:  Accounting (ACCT), Agricultural Enterprise Management (AGEM), Finance (FINC), Global Business (GLBU), Human Resources and Labour Relations (HRLR), Indigenous Governance and Business Management (IGBM), Management (MGT), and Marketing (MKTG).

When is registration?

Registration for Summer and Fall takes place mid-March. Registration for Winter takes place in early November. Be sure to register as soon as your registration time ticket opens during the initial registration period to be eligible for Fall or Winter wait-listing. THERE IS NO WAIT-LISTING FOR SUMMER COURSES.

How do I plan my DSB course registration?

When planning your registration, you should familiarize yourself with the Registration Guide, the Registration Videos, and the sequencing page of your Program Planning Guide. A full course load is five courses per term or 15 credits. Students in good standing can register in a 6th course (18 credits) on the first day of the term.  Three courses or 9 credits constitutes full-time studies.

For DSB courses, take special note of the following important pieces of information in the timetable on the Bridge:

1. Campus

Initially, only students who officially belong to the "Campus" field shown (Calgary or Lethbridge) can register in courses at that campus.

2. Instructional Method

Although most DSB courses are offered in-person (see the "Instructional Method" field), some DSB courses may be offered through one of the following methods:

INIn-person A course that is offered in-person on set days and times.
OLOnline OfferingA course delivered in real-time during the days and times indicated through an online platform.
OAOnline AsynchronousAn online course with no specific scheduled days and times. The instructor will inform you of course work, assignments, deadlines, and other course-specific information to be completed.
BL Blended LearningA course offered in a combination of online and in-person. Check with Instructor for technical requirements and meeting times.
DC Dual CreditA course only available to high school students participating in Dual Credit.

3. Restrictions

Fall and Winter DSB courses may be restricted by program, major and/or campus. Summer restrictions vary from year to year. In the timetable on the Bridge, click on the course "Title" link and then on "Restrictions" to see if a course is restricted to particular DSB program, major or campus.

If a course is restricted, only students who meet that restriction can initially register in the course. Restrictions will be dropped as per the tables at the bottom of this page.

How do I find DSB courses in the timetable?

To find DSB courses under the "Advanced Search" option in the timetable on the Bridge, first select the subjects for the courses you are interested in (if you don't choose a subject, you get all subjects), then select the instructional method (if you don't choose an instructional method, you get all methods), and then select your campus. Note: you can narrow your search to just DSB courses by selecting "Management course" as the attribute.

DSB courses may be initially restricted by program, major and/or campus, as per the Restrictions section above.  Restrictions will be dropped as per the tables at the bottom of this page.

Why can't I register in a DSB course?

If the course has seats available, but you are not able to register, click on the course "Title" link in the timetable on the Bridge and then click on the "Restrictions" field to see if it is restricted by program, major and/or campus. Restrictions will be dropped as per the tables at the bottom of this page.

Can I register in a DSB course at another campus?

You will not be able to register in a Fall or Winter course at another campus initially.  Seat allocation at each campus is tied to the number of students at that campus who require a course as part of their program. Seats for the course are prioritized and initially restricted based on these campus-specific enrollment numbers, and as such, students are not able to register at a different campus until the campus restriction is lifted.

Campus restrictions will be dropped as per the tables below and if seats are still available at that time, you will be able to register. However, courses at both campuses fill quickly so your options may be very limited.  NOTE:  You may only attend the section in which you are registered and the instructional method for that section. Do not register for a course that is offered in-person and expect to attend online.

Can I switch to the other campus?

Students wanting to switch campuses for the upcoming term can make the request by emailing Student Records in the SEARS office from their U of L email and cc'ing Calgary advising and Lethbridge advising by the deadlines below:

  • June 15 for the Fall term
  • September 15 for the Winter term

Students who miss the deadline will have to wait until registration restrictions drop as per the tables below to register in courses at the other campus.
