DSB Course Registration
What are Dhillon School of Business (DSB) courses?
DSB courses include: Accounting (ACCT), Agricultural Enterprise Management (AGEM), Finance (FINC), Global Business (GLBU), Human Resources and Labour Relations (HRLR), Indigenous Governance and Business Management (IGBM), Management (MGT), and Marketing (MKTG).
When is registration?
Registration for Summer and Fall takes place mid-March. Registration for Winter takes place in early November. Be sure to register as soon as your registration time ticket opens during the initial registration period to be eligible for Fall or Winter wait-listing. THERE IS NO WAIT-LISTING FOR SUMMER COURSES.
How do I plan my DSB course registration?
When planning your registration, you should familiarize yourself with the Registration Guide, the Registration Videos, and the sequencing page of your Program Planning Guide. A full course load is five courses per term or 15 credits. Students in good standing can register in a 6th course (18 credits) on the first day of the term. Three courses or 9 credits constitutes full-time studies.
For DSB courses, take special note of the following important pieces of information in the timetable on the Bridge:
1. Campus
The campus notation determines which students can initially register in a course as follows:
Calgary campus | Campus = "1" |
Lethbridge campus | Campus = "M" |
2. Instructional Method
DSB courses may be offered through one of the following instructional methods:
IN | In-person | A course that is offered in-person on set days and times. |
OL | Online Offering | A course delivered in real-time during the days and times indicated through an online platform. |
OA | Online Asynchronous | An online course with no specific scheduled days and times. The instructor will inform you of course work, assignments, deadlines, and other course-specific information to be completed. |
BL | Blended Learning | A course offered in a combination of online and in-person. Check with Instructor for technical requirements and meeting times. |
DC | Dual Credit | A course only available to high school students participating in Dual Credit. |
DSB courses are generally either in-person (IN) or online (OL). In the timetable on the Bridge, click on the Course Registration Number (CRN) link and look for the "instructional method" to see the instructional modality for the course. The "Location:" field in the timetable may also indicate if a course is online (OL).
Fall and Winter DSB courses may be restricted by campus and/or by program (college). Summer restrictions vary from year to year. In the timetable on the Bridge, click on the Course Registration Number (CRN) link and then click on the course title link to see if a course is restricted to particular DSB programs or to a particular campus. Registration restrictions will display under the “Restrictions:” heading.
If a course is restricted by campus, only students at that campus can initially register in the course. If a course is restricted by program (college), only students in the programs shown in the restrictions can initially register in the course. Program (college) and campus registration restrictions will be dropped as per the tables at the bottom of this page.
How do I find DSB courses in the timetable?
To find DSB courses under the "Advanced Search" option in the timetable on the Bridge, first select the subjects for the courses you are interested in, then select "ALL" instructional methods for both in-person and online courses, and then select your campus. Note: if you select all subjects, you can also narrow your search to just DSB courses by selecting "Management course" as the attribute type.
DSB courses may be initially restricted by program (college or campus) as per the "Registration Restrictions" section above. Program and campus registration restrictions will be dropped as per the tables at the bottom of this page.
Why can't I register in a DSB course?
If the course has seats available, but you are not able to register, click on the Course Registration Number (CRN) link in the timetable on the Bridge and then click on the course title link to see if a course is restricted by program (college) or campus. Registration restrictions will display under the “Restrictions:” heading. Program (college) and campus registration restrictions will be dropped as per the tables at the bottom of this page.
Can I register in a DSB course at another campus?
You will not be able to register in a Fall or Winter course at another campus initially. This is because course seats are allocated by the number of students at each campus so courses are initially restricted to students at that campus. Campus registration restrictions will be dropped as per the tables below and if seats are still available at that time, you will be able to register. However, courses at both campuses fill quickly so your options may be very limited. NOTE: You may only attend the section and in the instructional method modality of the section in which you are registered. Do not register for a course that is offered in-person at the other campus and expect to attend online.
Can I switch to the other campus?
Students wanting to switch campuses for the upcoming term can make the request by emailing Student Records in the SEARS office from their U of L email and cc'ing Calgary advising and Lethbridge advising by the deadlines below:
- June 15 for the Fall term
- September 15 for the Winter term
Students who miss the deadline will have to wait until registration restrictions drop as per the tables below to register in courses at the other campus.
