Climbing Safety

  • Make sure you fully understand the proper set-up of equipment
  • Know how to properly fall
  • Don't forget to do all your safety checks!
  • Know the climbing lingo between Climber and Belayer
  • Ensuring you have all the proper equipment for a safe climb
  • Always be aware of your surroundings
  • Always wear a helmet outdoors
  • Practice correct technique

What About Bouldering?

Bouldering is rock climbing stripped down to its raw essentials. Leaving behind ropes and harnesses and just using climbing shoes and a bag of chalk over safety mats, your challenge is to climb short but tricky bouldering "problems" (a route, or sequence of moves) using balance, technique, strength, and your brain.

Bouldering is the easiest form of climbing to get into because it requires the least amount of equipment- just shoes, chalk, and safety mats!

NEED SOMETHING TO DO THIS MONTH? It's LARCH season!  Why not check out one of these beautiful larch hikes!?

  1. Rowe Lakes - located in Waterton, the trailhead is off the Akamina Parkway. 

  2. South Fork Lakes - head out to Castle Wildland and check out this steep but beautiful hike (12.2km, 697m elevation) to the Southfork Lakes, surrounded by larches! 

  3. Arethusa Cirque Route - take a little trip to Kananaskis to check out this popular, easy loop, that has a little bit of everything! 

What is a larch you ask?  A larch is a deciduous tree that turns a magnificent golden yellow color in the early fall prior to losing their needles for the winter.  If you want to catch these dimorphic trees in the midst of their transformation, don't delay...their season is a short one!
