If your camper is swimming, they will not be permitted in the deep end of the pool until they have successfully completed the swim test of one length and are approved by a lifeguard on staff. Campers who are uncomfortable with this swimming test will remain in the shallow end with other campers and leaders.
All participants must pass a 25 metre swim test to use the pools without a life jacket (PFD). PFDs are not allowed in the dive tank.
Swim test consists of: jumping in the water from the raised edge of the pool, swimming a front swim style for 25 metres without touching the side of the pool wall. Successful swimmers will receive a wristband that allows them access to the dive tank & towers. We recommend swimmers to keep their wristband on for the week so they do not have to redo the swim test daily.
We want all campers to have a safe and successful week with us. The expectation is that all campers will behave in a wat that makes the whole group feel comfortable and safe. Everyone is to be treated fairly and with respect at all times, good sportsmanship will be encouraged as we strive to create a positive atmosphere throughout the camp.
Derogatory comments, bullying, or violence of any sort will not be tolerated.
We understand that all children have bad days which will be taken into consideration, however, severe misbehavior is not taken lightly.
Strikes will be given at the discretion of the leaders and the senior camp leader and/or supervisor.
1st Strike: A verbal warning is given directly to the camper, explaining what they did wrong and the appropriate behavior expected.
2nd Strike: A phone call is made to the camper’s guardian notifying them of the situation. A verbal warning given directly to the camper will be reiterated, explaining what they did wrong and the appropriate behavior expected. The camper must agree to adhere to the rules and proper behavior in order to continue in the camp. It is expected that the camper make the appropriate decisions, but ultimately it is the camper’s choice and they are expected to take responsibility for their actions.
3rd Strike: The camper is sent home and no money will be refunded. Whether the camper is allowed back to camp the next day will be decided on a case by case basis. If the camper is allowed back, they will have no more strikes and any misbehavior will automatically result in the camper being removed from the camp activity and sent home without the option to return to camp.
Horns Recreation has a no violence and no bullying policy to ensure the safety of all participants. Any physical misconduct will result in immediate removal from the program with no money refunded. Horns Recreation reserves the right to refuse further participation of any individual due to inappropriate behavior towards other campers or leaders. Removal from camp will be noted on the individual’s file and may affect registrations in other camps and/or programs.
If the need arises to cancel or transfer a participant’s camp registration, a $20 cancellation fee or $10 transfer fee is charged for each activity/program.
Cancellation within 7 working days and 1 working day prior to the commencement of the activity/program will result in a 50% refund of the original registration fee – if applicable, the materials portion of the registration will not be refunded.
