Description:

ORIS, in partnership with the Philanthropy and student awards office has transitioned the fund to support two summer student research awards each year. The timeline is identical to the Chinook application timeline. Please see the Chinook page for more information

Life and Climate designation: Generous donors have provided the funds for two student summer research awards to support students who are studying the impact of climate change, environment factors relating to climate, or the outcome of the environmental changes on life.  There are two awards available under this designation. One will be reserved for a project in the social sciences/humanities/fine arts, and the second will be reserved for a project in the sciences.

  • Students whose projects focus on climate, the environment, or the relationship between people and their surroundings must express their desire to be considered for the Life and Climate Award. The value of the “Life and Climate” scholarship is $6000;

  • The terms of the award are identical to the Chinook award with one additional requirement:

    • Students must submit a final report on the outcome of their summer project. This report will be shared with donors and the University of Lethbridge internal news. It may be shared to a wider audience as well.

  • If there are more than two applications, the applications that are not selected for this designation will automatically be considered for a Chinook award.

  • If there are multiple applications to the "Life and Climate” designation, but none are related to social sciences/humanities/ fine arts, and all are related to science (or vice versa), then both scholarships will be awarded to the strongest two applications in the same discipline.

  • It is important to note that a student is not permitted to receive both the Chinook and L&C Awards at the same time.

  • Timely submission of project outcomes is mandatory.
