Matt Alston

Matt Alston is the co-founder of Surex, a Canadian insurance brokerage that grew into one of the country's leading digital brokerages before being acquired by Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services, one of Canada's largest publicly traded financial services companies. He is especially proud that Surex remained rooted in Magrath, Alberta, demonstrating that a successful business can grow while creating opportunities in a rural community. Matt has been married to his wife, Jessica, for 22 years, and together they have four children. His passion for entrepreneurship and investing has shaped his career and fuels his desire to help others succeed. As a member of the University of Lethbridge Senate, Matt is committed to strengthening connections between the University and the business community while supporting students as they prepare for their careers. He hopes to bring practical business experience and real-world perspective to the Senate, helping students navigate the transition from education to the business world with confidence.
