2025 Recipients

Honorary Degrees are the highest honour conferred by the University of Lethbridge. The degrees are awarded to distinguished individuals in recognition of their scholarly, scientific or artistic achievement, or in recognition of exceptional contributions to the public good.

Regardless of the path they chose, each honoree is an inspiration. They have changed the world, or at least the way we look at it, having an impact both now and for generations to come.

Chancellor Terry Whitehead proudly conferred honorary degrees to six exceptional individuals at the Spring & Fall 2025 Convocation Ceremonies.

Drs. Bernadine and Toby Boulet, Doctor of Laws, honoris causa

Unwillingly thrust into the national spotlight when their son Logan was one of 16 passengers who perished in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash in 2018, Bernadine and Toby Boulet found the strength to turn their darkest day into the impetus for a national movement that continues to benefit people’s lives every day. By telling the story of their son donating his organs, they started what would become Green Shirt Day and a selfless, tireless commitment to advancing awareness around organ donation and later plasma and blood donation. Through their activities, they have inspired philanthropy and created lasting awards to honour their son, his mentor Ric Suggitt and support future generations of athletes. Through hope, compassion and generosity, Bernadine and Toby Boulet exemplify what it means to be global citizens, and the University of Lethbridge is proud to confer upon each of them an honorary Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
