Senator Ronald DeGagne
Aksistoina – Braveman
University of Lethbridge Alumnus, B.A. Political Science (2021)

Ronald DeGagne is a proud Métis descendant from the Red River region and the first university-educated member of his family, marking a significant milestone as the first generation of educated Métis out of the trapline. Deeply connected to the Lethbridge community, he has dedicated his career to advocacy, mentorship, and community-building.

As an undergraduate at the University of Lethbridge, Mr. DeGagne was a champion for affordable access to education, Indigenous representation, and improved parking access. He was a strong advocate for the creation of an Indigenous Students’ Union and played a key role in the successful call for the permanent raising of the Blackfoot flag on campus.

Beyond the university, Mr. DeGagne is the Director of Communities in Motion Lethbridge, a grassroots group dedicated to connecting individuals to their community through volunteerism, social activities, and engagement opportunities. His leadership in this initiative has been recognized by the Member of Parliament for Lethbridge with a Community Heroes Award and by the Province of Alberta through the Northern Lights Volunteer Recognition Program.

Currently, Mr. DeGagne works as a Youth Engagement Worker and Family Preservation Worker with Family Ties Association, mentoring youth across Southern Alberta, including the Piikani Nation. His commitment to making a difference in the lives of young people was honored with the Starfish Award, a peer-nominated recognition for his positive contributions and impact in youth mentorship.

As a University Senator, Mr. DeGagne continues to advocate for meaningful initiatives that strengthen student and community connections while supporting the University in achieving its strategic directions and plans. In addition to his professional and volunteer efforts, he is a Master Mason with Charity Lodge #67 in Lethbridge, where he continues his commitment to service and community engagement.
