Student Wellness Ambassador Program
S.W.A.P
What is S.W.A.P ?
It is a program designed by students, for students. The U of L Student Wellness Ambassadors are trained peer listeners who are responsible for planning and hosting regular outreach events for students throughout the academic year. The S.W.A.P team aims to promote student connection and wellness so that students can flourish!
- Peers can normalize experiences, help students feel less alone, and provide hope and tangible strategies
- Prevention – not everyone needs or wants professional counselling support
- Help identify students in distress
The S.W.A.P team also looks after REC room spaces. Visit the web page to learn more about the spaces and how they are encouraging our students to flourish!
Our Mission:
The mission of S.W.A.P is to provide students with peer support and encourage the well-being of our student body. Uniquely designed by students for students, the program hosts various social and well-being focused activities, connecting students and promoting student health. Aimed to empower our diverse campus, the S.W.A.P team is committed to advocating for the mental health of all our students. Because it takes a village… to get through university semester.

I am a second-year Bachelor of Health Sciences student majoring in Public Health. In addition to my Student Wellness Ambassador role, I work with the Accessible Learning Centre (ALC) as a tutor for students with disabilities.
Outside of my work on campus, I enjoy rock climbing, reading classic novels, and spending time with family and friends. A fun fact about me is that I am a mature student who started my undergraduate degree at the University of Lethbridge in 2025! Prior to enrolling in university, I spent several years working in long-term care facilities, specifically within the therapeutic services department. Working alongside recreational therapists, nurses, occupational therapists, and physical therapists allowed me to appreciate the various ways we can nurture our physical and mental health.
Through my Student Wellness Ambassador role, I hope to facilitate open conversations about mental health and help students access the wonderful mental health resources available on campus.

I am excited to be a member of the SWAP Team this year. I am in my fourth year of the Science Education program and have already had the opportunity to teach some littles through Ed 2500 and PS1. Outside of school, I love spending time outdoors, playing sports, and being involved in the community. If you see me around, please say hi!
Mismi Biswas
Hey everyone! I'm Mismi, a 4th-year Computer Science student with a minor in Women and Gender Studies at the U of L. I currently work as a paid Research Assistant on a multi-institution study examining the undergraduate student experience, which has me constantly thinking about what actually makes students feel supported on campus versus what just exists on paper as a resource. I'm also part of the Co-operative Education program, so I've gotten to see student life from a few different angles over the past few years. Outside of academics, I keep an indoor herb garden that I'm probably too attached to, and I share my apartment with a cat who tolerates my affection more than she welcomes it.
I joined SWAP because my research kept circling back to the same finding that students don't just need resources to exist somewhere in a directory, but that they need real, human-scale spaces where they feel seen and are able to actually connect. I wanted to move from studying that gap to actually helping close it. As an international student myself, I know firsthand how much a genuine sense of welcome and community can shape whether university feels survivable or actually good. Through SWAP, I'm hoping to help build spaces and events that make students feel like this campus is somewhere they can flourish, not just get through.
I'm really excited to be a part of this team, and I can't wait to see you all around campus!

I’m a fourth-year Neuroscience student working on my honours thesis. I joined SWAP because I’m passionate about health, especially mental wellness, as well as the amount of joy I experienced while volunteering with the team last year. Through SWAP, I hope to contribute to building a community that promotes wellness and gives students spaces to feel at peace.
As a student, I understand how challenging it can be to balance academics, personal life, and overall well-being. I want to help create a supportive environment where students feel seen, heard, and encouraged. In my free time, I like to read, do activities, and hang out with friends.

Habil Verma
I am a 3rd year finance student at the Calgary campus of U of L. I signed up to SWAP because this opportunity helps me give back to my campus and community. I love volunteering because it shows me that the work that we do makes a difference for the better. Mental health is one of the topics that still makes people uncomfortable, and through my efforts on campus I hope to change that.

I joined SWAP because the program’s mission to providing peer support and developing connections aligns with my career aim to improving wellness and overall wellbeing of populations.
