Counselling Groups and Workshops

Groups |  Fall 2026 Offerings

Is Group Counselling Right for Me?

Group counselling can be a powerful and valuable venue for change and growth. Group counselling offers many benefits such as peer support, reduced stigma and isolation, as well as normalization of feelings and experiences. Research indicates that group therapy is just as effective as individual counselling. Before joining a group, you will meet a group facilitator one-on-one to discuss what to expect, group content, and whether or not the group is a right fit for you at this time. More and more students are joining groups for the opportunity to connect with peers and feel less alone! Consider if group is the next step in your wellness journey.

Check back in August for more info about our Fall 2026 Groups! Summer workshop information can be found below!

What is a Wellness Workshop?

Roll for Resilience: Summer of One-Shots

“Your party meets in a tavern counselling office”

“Roll for Resilience: Summer of One-Shots” is a drop-in Dungeons and Dragons (DnD) workshop that is being offered to U of L students via Counselling Services.

No experience with therapy or DnD is required, only a willingness to participate and a commitment to attend. Participants are not required to have or bring any DnD materials as these will be provided.

The goal of these sessions will be to give students a chance to meet + connect, get familiar with how DnD works, and have fun rolling some dice, all accomplished via DnD sessions run by a counsellor.

This workshop will run every Friday from June 5th to July 3rd at 1:30-3:00 pm with the following themes:

  • June 5th: How to Make a Character
  • June 12th: Skill Exploration + Character Role Play
  • June 19th: Monster Encounter #1
  • June 26th: Puzzle Proficiency
  • July 3rd: Monster Encounter #2

*Space for this workshop will be quite limited and on a first come first serve basis up to a maximum of six (6) participants per session. DnD 5e (2024) will be the format used for the sessions. The therapeutic version of Roll for Resilience will run in the Fall 2026 semester.

Location: AH153- Counselling Services office.

To register: Drop in to AH153 any time before a session begins.

Jog and Java

Jog and Java is a drop-in workshop that offers a supportive space to get active while building community with others.

Whether you’re looking to boost your mood, establish a routine, or simply connect with others in a low-pressure environment, start your day with movement, fresh air, and meaningful connection! All levels of experience are welcome.

This workshop will run every Tuesday from May 5th to June 30th at 8:45-9:45 am and will follow a consistent format:

  • 15-minute warm-up to gently prepare your body for movement
  • 30-minute run, jog, or walk, with options to match a range of comfort and fitness levels
  • 15-minute coffee and connection time back in the group room, offering space to relax, chat, and build supportive connections

Location: AH153- Counselling Services office.

To register: Drop in to AH153 any time before a session begins.

Please note: This workshop is intended to take place outdoors; however, in the event of adverse weather, sessions may be cancelled or adapted to an indoor format. Please come prepared with weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable footwear.
