Faculty & Staff

Supporting Students in Distress and Crisis

Faculty and Staff play an integral role in students' well-being. Due to our small campus size and our close interactions with students, you may easily come across a student who is clearly in distress. The following resources are provided to help you manage this type of situation.

  • How and When to Refer
  • Faculty's Role
  • Worried about a student? Consultation available - contact the office. 403-317-2845
  • Worrisome Behaviour? If you would like to report worrisome or concerning behaviour you can complete a Behavioural Intervention Report.
  • For campus emergencies contact Security at 403-329-2345 or dial 911

At the University of Lethbridge, we all have a role in supporting student well-being. If a student is at immediate risk of serious harm to themselves or others, faculty and staff should call 911 or contact a professional from the PACT Team right away. Acting quickly, while keeping the student informed, ensures they receive the urgent care they need while preserving their dignity during critical moments.

  • While conversations about suicide, harm to self, and/or harm to others can be difficult, responding with care and urgency can make all the difference. Emergency services are best equipped to provide immediate support, and Counselling Services will be available for follow-up care as needed.

The EFAP offers:

  • Short-term counselling and consultation (12 hours per benefit year)
  • Referral to appropriate services and resources

Homewood also maintains a virtual database of helpful articles, webinars, and virtual courses to help you navigate a wide variety of situations and challenges, from quitting smoking to planning for retirement. These resources are available to all eligible employees via the Homewood Health website (see the HR Hub for more information on how to access virtual resources).
