Alejandro Figueroa
Alejandro Figueroa is a student in the Faculty of Arts and Science, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a double minor in Neuroscience and Sociology. He currently serves as the President of the University of Lethbridge Students’ Union and was previously an Arts & Science Representative. He was also the Vice-President of both the Rotaract Club and the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) where he supported refugee advocacy and student engagement through campus initiatives and community partnerships, including contributions to the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen through Rotaract-led fundraising and volunteering.
Alejandro is a passionate advocate for student well-being and currently serves as a Student Wellness Ambassador. In this role, he champions mental health awareness through student-led initiatives, spearheading events like a school-wide Wellness Carnival that connected hundreds of students with stress reducing activities, peer support, and campus resources. His work focuses on creating inclusive, supportive environments that empower students to care for their well-being. He also served as a Varsity Athlete Ambassador with Kin in the Kommunity, promoting inclusion for individuals with disabilities and connecting varsity athletics with the broader community. Beyond campus, Alejandro has delivered community workshops on mental health and preparation for post-secondary life. He also previously worked as a STEM Instructor at the University of Lethbridge, encouraging youth to explore science through hands-on programming.
Demonstrating leadership through sport, Alejandro serves as the Head Sprints Coach for the Lethbridge Track and Field Club while competing as a varsity sprinter on the University’s track and field team. He also coaches track and field for several high schools in Lethbridge, along with cross-country and badminton at École La Vérendrye. Through these roles, he mentors young athletes and fosters inclusive sport environments.
A former President of the National Honour Society, Alejandro has a longstanding commitment to leadership and youth development. Trilingual in Spanish, French and English, he brings a strong intercultural perspective to his community engagement and mentorship work. His contributions have been recognized, notably, with the Chinook Leadership Award, Academic All-Canadian honors, multiple Dean’s List distinctions, the Pronghorn Citizenship Award, the Laurence Decore Award for Student Leadership, and the Dr. Gary McPherson Leadership Award.
