KPMG General Business Strategy Case Competition

This annual case competition, sponsored by KPMG, is your opportunity as a Dhillon School of Business student to compete in an intercampus (UofL Calgary and Lethbridge campus DSB students only) general business strategy case competition. All business majors and years welcome!

Form your team of 3-4, and sign-up to participate in this new gamified competition!!!

What to expect:

GoVenture CEO offers a dynamic (gamified) context for students to experience the challenges of decision making towards the goal of operating a successful and profiting business. In your team, you will work together to organize, set up and manage as CEO of your hypothetical company. Teams participating will be organized into industries, each selling a similar product competing for market share. For each round, your team will execute a strategy by implementing decisions regarding R&D, marketing, production, and finance to complete one round. There will be three decision making rounds, groups will collect their respective research prior to each round/period and then input the information. Participation in each round before the deadline is mandatory for the teams to compete effectively.

Virtual Tournament

  Round 1

Mar.5

  Round 2

Mar.7

  Round 3

Mar.12

Following the last round of the tournament, each team will demonstrate their ability to deliver an informative, engaging, and concise results-based presentation, approximately five to seven (5-7) minutes in length. Each team will present on one or two of their most insightful findings/challenging decisions at the end of the course. All group members are required to contribute during the presentation. Presentations do not need to follow a traditional format but need to describe each decision effectively and persuasively with supporting evidence. Presentations should be five (5) minutes in length and will be followed by a brief question and answer period. A single score will be assigned to all members of the group, so make sure that everyone is well prepared. Presentations will be attended by KPMG who sponsor the simulation and are interested in seeing potential job candidates in action.

On April 4 @ 4:30-5:45pm (on the Lethbridge campus) there will be an awards ceremony (virtual option available). Members of KPMG will be there to network, winners will be announced, and prizes will be awarded.

We think that students with really enjoy the gamified learning instead of solving a traditional paper case. The bonus here is that instead of just presenting a business solution you are actually executing it in “the world” to learn from the many impacts it has and follow-up decisions required. It will be a race to see who can make the most money!!

The winners of the competition will receive bragging rights, prize money ($100 cash for each member of the winning team), trophies for 1st, certificates, prizes and DSB swag.
