High School vs. Post-Secondary Supports

What Will be Different in Post-Secondary?

It is important to remember that the laws that regulate accommodations at college and university are different than those for high school

Accommodations received in high school are not automatically granted in college or university

Post-secondary institutions often require:
  • More specific documentation
  • More comprehensive proof of disability (especially for ADHD and learning disabilities
Post-secondary education emphasizes:
  • Independent adult learning
  • Personal responsibility in managing academic needs
Students must:
  • Develop their own voice
  • Learn to navigate their academic journey
  • Proactively discuss available accommodations with the institution

The University is located on traditional Blackfoot Confederacy territory. We honour the Blackfoot people and their traditional ways of knowing in caring for this land, as well as all Aboriginal peoples who have helped shape and continue to strengthen our University community.
