Dr. Trushar Patel is a professor and Canada Research Chair in RNA in Protein Biophysics at the University of Lethbridge. His lab employs interdisciplinary tools to gain insights into how viral nucleic acids interact with human proteins and to understand the structural features of non-coding RNAs.Currently, the lab is focusing on viruses that contain RNA as their genetic material, such as Dengue, Mayaro, Zika, and encephalitis, as well as deformed wing and sacbrood viruses, to understand how the RNA molecules communicate with human proteins to aid viral replication. The lab utilizes a range of tools, including cell and molecular biology, bioinformatics, biochemistry, and structural biology, to achieve its goals.

Dr. Patel’s work contributes to our understanding of viral infections and the critical interactions between nucleic acids and proteins. His research has far-reaching implications for therapeutics and public health.

Trainee opportunities: We are looking for graduate students and a postdoctoral fellow to work in the area of host protein - viral RNA interaction. For inquires, please email to trushar.patel@uleth.ca
