About

Cindy Gaetz began her career as part of the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2011.  She is a Registered Psychologist, instructor, and Internship Coordinator in the Addictions Counselling Program. As an educator she is passionate about issues related to counsellor education, training, and supervision.  Working from a lens of self-inquiry and critical thinking, she encourages an experiential learning environment that fosters independent, autonomous, creative, self-reflective future counselling practioners.   

Areas of interest related to clinical issues: 

  • Trauma as an contributing factor in the development and treatment of addictions and mental health issues 
  • The significance of lifespan, human development and life transition issues related to mental health, addiction, and treatment 
  • Cultural, psychosocial, and political issues as significant factors in the development and maintenance of addictions and mental health issues  
  • Feminist and Queer approaches to counselling  
  • Transformative experiences in counselling 


Areas of interest related to counsellor education and training: 

  • The importance of field supervision for the student counsellor 
  • The importance of attending to personal issues and domains for counsellor wellness and effectiveness  
  • The importance of attending to professional growth issues for counsellor effectiveness and wellness 
  • Ethics
