Traditional knowledge
"Chokecherry" abundant in berries in mid to late August. Pákkii’p has always been an important form of subsidence for the Niitsitapi. The large seed makes them difficult to work with, traditional uses include pemican.
Description
Large shrub or small tree (2–10 m) with oval finely toothed leaves and smooth grey bark. Produces long clusters of white flowers that develop into dark red to black berries.
