"Buffalo bean" one of the earliest flowers to bloom in spring Otsiikin is an indication that winter has come to an end. When the yellow flowers bloom it is time to begin preparations for the years Okan (Sundance). 

Habitat
Prairie, east-facing slopes, in sheltered areas.
